We can make our communities safer and kinder by requiring people who are a
danger to themselves and others to be in treatment for the drug, alcohol, and
mental health conditions that lead to repeated arrests and chronic homelessness.
It simply isn’t humane to let so many people live and die on our streets, hurting
themselves and others. The era of mass treatment needs to start now. We need
to stop tolerating the misery on our streets and make everyone safer by requiring
those who are a danger to themselves and others to get the treatment they
need, even if it requires temporary stay in a secure treatment facility.
